Things to do: Christmas at Wressle Grange

Are you the kind of group that visits and holes up for the weekend, using the games room, watching a film together, looking out over the rolling fields and making the most of the time together in the accommodation… or do you use the house and cottages as a base and take advantage of our excellent transport links and exciting things to do nearby? We’re not going to make you choose – you can easily do both at Wressle Grange.

Feeling Christmassy

We’ve been investigating some options for Christmas activities local to Wressle Grange, to give you inspiration for the next couple of months!

Christmas shopping

York really offers a brilliant shopping experience this time of year. The cobbled streets give a feeling of going back in time, and the Christmas markets are varied and fun. There are plenty of options to stop and refuel as well! Every Thursday, shops stay open later at this time of year. There’s plenty of parking, or you can park and ride from the designer outlet, only half an hour from Wressle Grange.

McArthur Glen Designer Outlet is itself a great shopping destination. As well as having dozens of big brand outlet stores, they have a popular ice rink and Father Christmas visits in December.

Hull is kicking off Christmas early with a Victorian Christmas market at the end of November, with Christmas crafts, storytelling, traditional music and of course, stalls.

Beverley’s Festival of Christmas 2023 will be held on Sunday 10th December 2023, when over 110 stalls with Christmas gifts and local treats take over the historic market town.

Get into the spirit

If a winter wonderland is what you’re after, how about Castle Howard? Around 50 mins drive away, they’re transforming the house into a Peter Pan theme this year, with decorations, twinkling lights and workshops.

It’s behind you!

Panto with the kids is always a winner, and we’re lucky to have a lot of options around us. York’s Grand Opera House and York Theatre Royal, and Hull Theatres have popular shows, plus more locally, Howden Shire Hall also puts on a panto. Oh yes, it does!

Christmas in Howden

Only five minutes away, in Howden, independent retailers across the town stay open for late night Christmas shopping on the first Thursday in December. Stalls, food, rides and live entertainment will be provided… as well as the shops themselves staying open for your shopping pleasure.

Howden Minster also runs events throughout December, from traditional carol services to concerts.

Christmas in Wressle

Of course, you have the option of wrapping up warm by the fire and just staying in. Our games room and TV will keep the kids entertained, and you can hop in the hot tub (if you’re at the house) or venture out for a lovely country walk if you feel like it.
