Our story

From farming to five stars, this is how we got here.

Farming with the Fosters

When you stay at Wressle Grange, you’ll be welcomed by the Fosters - husband and wife Claire and Graham, and our children George and Annabel. We’re fourth generation farmers, and our arable farm grows wheat, barley, oilseed rape, vining peas and linseed. "It’s a way of life. It’s never a chore and no two days are the same." ~ Graham Our family bought the arable farmland, and then moved to Grange Farm in 2012 - this is now the farmhouse which is open for group bookings. We recognise that farmers have to diversify, so while Claire was on maternity leave in 2014, we bought Grange Farm Cottages as they were previously known. With no experience, no clients, no internet presence and of course two babies, we refurbished the cottages and started welcoming our first visitors.

The Wressle Grange estate

Wressle is an estate village, and we’ve reverted to the name used for hundreds of years - the farm appears in historical listings as Wressle Grange. It was tenanted from the estate, which eventually ended up as Lord Leconfield’s estate. "You see the seasons - from putting grain in the ground, nurturing the crops, then harvesting, then drilling for next year’s crop - we do it all ourselves." ~ Claire

Awards-shortlisted accommodation

We’re very proud to say we were selected as REYTA Finalists 2020 and Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Award 2019 Finalists. We think it’s the attention to detail and the warm Yorkshire welcome that make us stand out. Effort has been put into making the accommodation sustainable - we installed a wood pellet biomass boiler which serves all of the accommodation and uses green energy. We’ve installed hedging and bird boxes to encourage local wildlife, and provide bird books and binoculars in the houses. We use local companies to stock our welcome packs. Our welcome book suggests local, independent shops and restaurants and we use a local cake baker for special occasions. We stopped using plastic bottles of soap and provide handmade soaps made nearby, which are cut into small bars for short stays to reduce waste. The accommodation is continually improved - we recently added new doors and soft furnishings to the cottages and the house has been launched with fresh decorating and furnishings. As a family business, we’re on-hand for anything you need.
