Wressle Castle

This grade I listed sandstone building is one of the huge draws that brings tourists to Wressle. It’s an impressive heritage site that sits amongst the fields, housing an abundance of Yorkshire’s history that dates as far back as the 14th century.

The space remains privately-owned. However, twice a year, the owners invite everyone to explore the castle ruins whilst local groups construct re-enactments on the grounds.

St. John of Beverley Church

This enchanting village church sits at the heart of the Wressle community and is steeped in history. Today, the church is simply used as a place of worship for local residents. Visitors are welcome to attend a service, or simply explore the quaint red brick building and surrounding churchyard.

Wressle Fête

Locals keep tradition very much alive in the village of Wressle, and every year the community gather to celebrate the Wressle Village Fête. The entire family will enjoy the festivities, including soft inflatable play areas and time-honoured games such as tombola, welly wanging and lucky dip. Meanwhile, some healthy competition is encouraged with awards for the best flower arrangement and picture collage.

Scenic walking routes

Even when the village has not come to life during one of the many yearly events, there’s plenty to see and do. Woodland and rolling fields wrap the entire community, which make for beautiful evening walks along the River Derwent.

Take in the scenery during a circular route and see ducks, herons and owls. You might even catch a deer or two!
